Help
Welcome to the Help section of virtualobservatory.org. Here you will find
resources that will help you use each of the NVO tools. Click one of the links
below to get started. Each section consists of two pages: a brief introduction
to the tool and a page with an animated demo of the tool being used. The Help
section also includes a tutorial on using Excel to graph and analyze
data collected through the NVO.
If you have questions about how to use the tools, E-mail the
NVO Help Desk
DataScope |
The DataScope is NVO's online version of a "telescope." Enter any object name or
sky position to "point" the DataScope at that object or position. The DataScope will
return all the data for the object that the NVO can discover. |
Registry
|
The Registry is the Yellow Pages of the NVO. You can search for astronomical
resources - surveys (like the Sloan Digital Sky Survey), catalogs (like the Messier
Catalog), or other datasets. |
Spectrum services
|
Spectrum Services is the NVO's tool for viewing and analyzing spectra. You
can search for spectra by position, or by the survey that measured them. You can then
graph several spectra on the same axes, or save them to a My Spectra database. |
OpenSkyQuery |
OpenSkyQuery is the tool to use for comparing datasets. You can find objects
that appear in two or more datasets, and can constrain your search to return
only certain types and magnitudes of objects. |
